Leeds City Council is today debating and voting on its budget for the forthcoming year. Below is a summary of the additional measures Conservative Councillors are proposing against the Labour Council's plans.
· We’ll SCRAP the new household waste site charges.
· We’ll give our vital neighbourhood networks an EXTRA £1m to help prevent people needing to go to hospital.
· We’ll BOOST recycling by launching two new food waste collection rounds and a glass collection round.
· We’ll use the power of local business to deliver an EXTRA £1m towards a cultural legacy for Leeds.
· We’ll REVERSE the cuts to our most vulnerable learners, putting money into schools to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
· We’ll GET TOUGH on developers who breach planning conditions, putting £100,000 into the budget for planning enforcement prosecutions.
· We’ll give our community committees an EXTRA £700,000 to help fund local priorities and projects.
· We’ll INVEST in energy efficient and cost effective LED streetlighting.
· We’ll set up an innovative NEW housing company to quickly deliver affordable housing to the areas that need it.
· We’ll put an EXTRA £1.5m into maintaining our neglected road network.
· We’ll protect our most vulnerable older people by REMOVING the charges for the sheltered warden service.
· We’ll put an EXTRA £100,000 money into clearing snow and ice from our highways, especially near schools.
· We’ll IMPROVE access to toilets for disabled people by investing £250,000 to convert existing facilities and create new ones.
· We’ll invest £100,000 to tackle fly-tipping and keep our communities clean and green.
