The Conservative Candidates for Otley & Yeadon Ward in the Leeds City Council elections on 3rd May are Ken Creek, Diane Fox and Philip Rees. Some more information about each of them is below.
Ken Creek is a local businessman who lives in Milner Bank, Otley with his wife, Margaret. He was a former councillor in Skipton before moving to Otley 14 years ago. His Otley based training company provides first aid and safety training across the north of England with training centres in Shipley and Castleford. In his spare time Ken is an active volunteer Community First Responder with Yorkshire Ambulance Service and is the local co-ordinator for the schemes in Otley, Menston and Burley in Wharfedale. After spending 10 years as an officer with the local army cadet force, Ken now spends one day a week in the summer period as a volunteer skipper on the canal boat “Endeavour” which takes residents from local care homes on canal boat trips. Ken also has three dogs and enjoys walking them on the Chevin or further afield in the Yorkshire Dales.
Diane Fox is a former primary school teacher and has also served as a school governor. Her late husband Clive Fox represented the old Otley & Wharfedale ward on the City Council. She has two adult children who both attended Prince Henry’s Grammar School. In her spare time she has researched into her family history and discovered that some of her ancestors were farming in the Otley area in the late 18 th century. Local history is another of her interests. As a volunteer she has sold poppies for the Royal British Legion for many years. Diane has experience of serving on two parish councils. She is particularly interested in planning and believes that
the character of Otley and Yeadon should be retained as should the surrounding Green Belt.
Phil Rees has lived in Otley for over 34 years, and for much of that time he was a finance and pensions specialist working in local government and for a water company. He is interested in motorsport and he has organised and volunteered at many events in the UK and in Europe. He is also a fisherman and enjoys walking. Phil takes a keen interest in current affairs and local politics. He is especially concerned about the various new housing developments planned by Leeds City Council and the potential loss of valuable Green Belt and greenfield sites which he fears will have an adverse effect on towns such as Otley and Yeadon. He believes the resulting increase in population and traffic will place further strain on existing amenities and infrastructure and add to further congestion on the local roads.
